Billhead of Schwartz Foundry Co. (Formerly Leeds Foundry), New Orleans, Louisiana, 1896

Billhead of the Schwartz Foundry Co. (formerly Leeds Foundry), located at the corner of Delord and Constance Streets in New Orleans, Louisiana. The billhead, dated November 25, 1896, lists M. Schwartz as President, Wm. Adler as Vice President, and M.G. Weil as Secretary and Treasurer. The company manufactured steam engines, sugar mills, sawmills, and gins. A lithograph of forging is featured on the billhead. This item is noteworthy as an early example of backward integration into the heavy industrial equipment supply chain. Related billheads are noted. By 1910, Weil & Adler were involved in legal disputes, as evidenced by "Adler v. United States, 10/3/1910". The American Jewish Year Book records the death of Moses Schwartz, manufacturer, in New Orleans, Louisiana on July 8, 1912.
