Carte-de-visite (CDV) depicting a view of the burnt district in Richmond, Virginia. Approximately 2 1/2" x 4", this photograph is part of a series titled "Views of the Rebel Capital and its Environs." Published by Levy & Cohen, Philadelphia, circa 1865. The Library of Congress negative number is LC-B8184-10382. The CDV shows excellent condition on both the front and reverse sides. Levy & Cohen, a partnership of Jewish photographers, documented at least 33 views of Richmond during the summer of 1865. This image is exceptionally rare, with few known examples held by institutions such as the Library Company of Philadelphia and the Library of Congress. The photograph of Libby Prison is particularly noteworthy, with its label mentioning "Dick Turner" (Richard R. Turner, commissary of Libby Prison) in the foreground.
