Illustrated billhead of Semon Bache & Co., a glass warehouse established in 1847, located at 24 Park Place & 19 Barclay Street, New York City. The billhead features an illustration of glassworks in Fuerth, Germany and is dated August 12, 1871. Semon Bache (1826-1891) was born in Bavaria and immigrated to the United States, working for his uncle in Mississippi before settling in New York. He married Elizabeth Van Praag (daughter of prominent New York dentist and community member Dr. Aaron Van Praag), and their daughter Henrietta married Julius Kayser, founder of the Julius Kayser Company. Their sons, Jules Semon Bache (1861-1944) and Leopold Semon Bache (1865-1927), were prominent New York bankers and brokers.
