Two contiguous ledgers (A and B) documenting the transactions of Wright & Young, a New York City textile firm, from July 6, 1757, to July 15, 1760. Ledger A comprises pages 1-388, and Ledger B, pages 389-496. These folio-sized ledgers, bound in original reversed calf covers, offer detailed records of the firm's business, including sales of textiles and sundries, shipping transactions to various locations (Jamaica, St. Domingo, North Carolina, Honduras, Bristol, and London), and financial entries for bonds and bills of exchange. A significant portion of the records (approximately 257 pages) detail transactions with at least 40 Jewish merchants in New York City, New Haven, Albany, and Fishkill. The ledgers provide invaluable insight into the early textile trade and the activities of early Jewish merchants in New York.
