Roster of Company D, 55th New York Infantry, circa 1863. The roster lists all 28 officers and enlisted men. Captain Riedinger signed the roster twice, certifying its accuracy. The roster includes Private Lazarus, Leonard, residing at 481 8th Avenue. The 55th New York Infantry, also known as the "Guard de La Fayette," was composed of French residents of New York City and distinguished itself in battles at Orchard, Malvern Hill, and Gaines' Mills.
