This archival collection contains a letter from Louise B. Hart, a prominent Philadelphia Jewish woman and associate of Rebecca Gratz, to Isaac Leeser. Dated circa 1830s-1840s, the letter invites Leeser to the annual meeting of the Ladies Hebrew Sewing Society at the Portuguese Synagogue on October 8th. The collection also includes a second undated note from Hart to Leeser, acknowledging payment for "The Occident" and a book, and mentioning an upcoming meeting. The original envelope addressed to Leeser is also included. Accompanying materials consist of photostats from "The Jews of Philadelphia" (Morais, 1894) which reference Hart's prominence in Philadelphia Jewish organizations and her close association with Rebecca Gratz, and mention the publication of a memoir, "The Diary and Letters of Louise B. Hart," by M. M. Cohen.

A bound manuscript volume containing 62 ketubot (Jewish marriage contracts), primarily from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with additional entries from Huntington, Lancaster, Bucks, and Montgomery Counties in Pennsylvania, and Lynchburg and Richmond, Virginia. The ketubot, numbered 1-62, are mostly dated from the 1870s, with some from 1880 and 1881. They are written in a consistent style by scribe Gershon Bar Moshe Simcha, the Precentor of Congregation Beth El Emeth, and feature the names of the bride and groom, witnesses, and the wedding date. Many of the individuals named were prominent in American finance, business, and government.
